Visa Questions (see end of page for Visa Details - How to get a Chinese Visa from US)
I understand that we must have someone present our application and passport in person at a consulate to request a Visa, along with two photo's like those that appear on a U.S. Passport. (I'm not sure if they need to be black and white or color.) Is this correct and do you know if they should be color or black and white? (Shelley Roy)
In space 12 we need to state the purpose of our journey, then in space 13 we need to list the company or person to visit... what do we put in these blanks? (Shelley Roy)
In space 15 the number of entries - I am planning to fly directly into Guangzhou the city of the conference and go immediately to Hong Kong for the weekend. Am I correct that this is considered 2 entries? (Shelley Roy)
I believe this is considered two entries. (A. Winter)
Presentations
- Gary Cziko: I'd like to show a number of "physical" demonstrations of individual and group perceptual control, using rubberbands, markers, tennis balls, etc. I will put a title here when I come up with one.
- Bill Powers: I'm going to bring some new demos that will be in the new book, though the book won't be ready for the meeting (year after that).
Accommodation
As of Jan 2006, participants are scheduled to stay in the International Student Dorm at South Normal University. Single rooms (10 square metres) with bath and air conditioning will cost 20 USD per day. Couples should be able to stay in a room designed for two. The fee, including 3 days of conference plus a tour of the city, will cost approx. 280 USD per person. However, nothing is firm yet.
Details and costs may still change and the accommodation is still being negotiated.
When you get more information about the rooms will you be sure to post it. I'll need to know how many rooms I'll need to reguest.
As I will be arriving late Thursday night... and will need to find the train to Hong Kong, any ideas of a hotel to stay Thursday night near the train station?
Internet Access
Internet access will be available (for a charge) in the International Student Dormitory.
Nearby attractions?
Any recommendations for finding flights at the best prices?
I've been looking at http://www.airlineconsolidator.com/infobook_fs.html They seem to have all the routes covered. ... later, I ended up booking with United directly for five bucks less -Bill Powers
I tineraries - What are your plans? Feel free to edit details
It appears that several people are planning to spend the weekend before the conference in Hong Kong.
Count us in (Lloyd Klinedinst and Barbara Bollmann).
I'll be at Hong Kong's Holiday Inn Golden Mile Friday and Saturday the 14th and 15th, then going to the dorm in Guangzhou by train on Sunday. (Bill Powers) Shelley, Duncan, Glenn and Tony will also be at the Holiday Inn Golden Mile... Fred and Perry will be .5km away.
Visa Details: How to get a Chinese Visa from U.S.
Step 1 Go to the website listed below and figure out which one (China Embassy or Chinese Consulate) is responsible for your application process. http://www.china-embassy.org/eng/hzqz/t84229.htm (Appendix 1 shows you what the website page looks like)
Step 2 Submit your application package to the visa office in person. If you can not go personally, you may entrust someone else or a travel/visa agent to go to the visa office of the Embassy or Consulate in the consular jurisdiction in which you live for the application process.
Be aware, at present, China Embassy/Consulate haven’t authorized any organizations to be their representative to handle your visa request.
It’s your responsibility to find a reliable person or a travel/visa agent (Appendix 2 for your reference) to help you if you can not submit your application to the visa office by yourself. (Note: For those who authorize another person or a travel/visa agent to submit their applications, an authorized letter is not requested)
Step 3 Wait to get your Chinese Visa. It usually takes 4 to 10 days to get your visa depending on which area you live in.
Fee Processing fee: 50.00 USD/ person If you ask to have your visa mailed back to you directly from the embassy/consulate, you have to pay an extra 5.00 USD for the mailing handing fee. You also have to submit an envelope (mailing fee should be fully prepaid by yourself) with your name and specific mailing address on it. Be aware, for these mailing-back mails, FedEx and Express Mail are acceptable (But in L.A., Express Mail is the only acceptable mailing-back service), certified and registered mail is not! For those who want this mailing-back service, totally fee you have to pay is 55.00 USD.
Please be advised, Consulate General in New York doesn’t offer the mailing-back service in its consular jurisdiction. If you live in this area, your visa application should be submitted and picked up by yourself or someone else entrusted.
Note
1. Hong Kong is a special area of China. With your single entry visa, once you enter the mainland of China, such as Guangzhou, then when you go to Hong Kong from Guangzhou, you won’t be able to go back to any place in the mainland of China again. So for those who also want to visit Hong Kong during their trip in July, please set Hong Kong as your first / last stop.
2. For people who want to apply for a business visa, you may be asked to submit an invitation letter from China. Please contact Autumn Winter for further information.
3. Chinese Visas are only valid for 90 days, so don't apply too early. Once you enter Mainland China, your visa is only valid for 30 days.
